Compliance Reviews

Business compliance review South Africa

A business compliance review gives owners and managers a structured look at the records and processes they already rely on. Breaktrue helps South African SMEs understand what is present, what is missing and what needs action. The result is a prioritised plan written for the people who run the business.

Choose the right scope for the review

No two businesses have the same risks. A company with staff, customer information and several suppliers needs a different review from a new company with only its founding records. We begin by asking what prompted the review: an upcoming tender, a request from a client, a recent incident, growth or a general concern that records are out of date. We then agree which areas to examine. These might include company filings, employment documents, privacy information, approval steps or the way important records are stored. We state clearly what is outside the review so the result is not mistaken for a full legal audit.

Look at evidence, not only policies

A policy is useful only if the business can show how it is applied. We ask to see the records that support everyday work: current company details, signed documents, staff files, notices, registers, checklists and evidence of decisions. We also ask who uses those records and where they are kept. A missing signature, an outdated contact or a document no one can find can become an issue even when the policy itself is well written. We keep the request proportionate and explain why each item matters. You can tell us when a document does not exist rather than trying to create it just for the review.

Rank findings by impact and effort

The review should help you decide what to do next. We group findings into immediate actions, planned improvements and items to monitor. We explain the practical reason for each priority and identify what information is still needed. An urgent filing issue may need attention before a broad document clean-up; a privacy notice may be less useful if the team has no way to handle a customer request. We do not label every imperfection as a crisis. Where a question requires a lawyer, accountant or other specialist, we flag that boundary and suggest the evidence to take to them.

Turn the report into a working plan

A report has value only when someone can act on it. Our action plan names the task, the person or role best placed to own it, the information needed and a sensible order of work. We can walk through the findings with the owner or management team and agree which changes to tackle first. Some actions may be completed internally; others may fit our company compliance, labour relations or POPIA support. You are free to use another provider. We aim to give you enough clarity to make that choice and track progress after the review.

When a review is most useful

Consider a review before a major customer onboarding, a tender submission, a growth phase or a change in management. It is also useful when responsibilities have become unclear or several records have not been checked for some time. A review is not a certificate of legal compliance, and it cannot guarantee that no issue exists outside the agreed scope. It is a practical snapshot based on the information available at the time. If your business needs a formal certification, statutory audit or regulated opinion, we will say so and help you understand what kind of provider to approach.

Enquire for more

Enquire for more and tell us what prompted the review: a tender, client request, growth, an incident or general uncertainty. Share the areas you are most concerned about and the records you already have. We can then explain a suitable review scope, what you would receive and what information is needed to begin.

Timeline and next steps

We aim to reply within one business day. The review schedule depends on how quickly documents and decision-makers are available. We agree a start date, a review period and a date for discussing the findings after checking the scope. An urgent request can be raised in your enquiry, but we will not promise a full review before a deadline until we know what needs to be examined.

Questions about compliance reviews

Is a compliance review an audit or certificate?

No. It is a practical review of the agreed areas and the information made available to us. It does not replace a statutory audit, formal certification or specialist legal opinion.

Do we need to prepare perfect documents first?

No. The point is to understand what exists and what is missing. A simple list of your current records is enough to begin, and we will explain which documents would be useful to see.

Will you help us fix the gaps you find?

We can discuss a separate implementation scope after the findings are clear. The action plan is yours to use, whether you complete tasks internally, use Breaktrue for suitable work or appoint another specialist.
